Should Scotland be considered a separate country to visit or stay in?

I am Scottish and very proud of it.

I wondered what peoples opinion on considering Scotland (and to that extent perhaps Wales and N. Ireland) as a separate country to visit after all Scotland has:

  • a devolved Parliament from London with extensive powers, with it's own First Minister (akin to a Prime Minister/President)
  • it's own flag, coat of arms, legal system, culture, education system, church, heritage
  • it has unique flora and fauna found nowhere else in the UK
  •  and a very unique climate

The only thing that Scotland lacks in independence from the UK. In conclusion do you believe this merits Scotland with the right to be considered a separate country to visit?

What else Scotland has

I'm sure you're right to be proud of being Scottish, and a lovely country it is too.  But you forgot to mention a few other things Scotland has - free university education, free care for the elderly - and they wanted free school meals too, all paid for by the taxpayers of the United Kingdom, the majority of whom are English, and don't have these benefits.  Scottish MPs at Westminster can vote on matters affecting only England, while English MPs have no say in what the (very narrowly) elected majority do in the Scottish Parliament.  Be careful before you wish for independence.  Would you want your own broadcasting service too, or would you be happy to stay with the BBC? - which is disproportionately staffed by Scots, anyway.  Don't get me wrong, I am NOT anti-Scottish, just interested in a balanced argument.   As to your question about separateness, that has been answered before, and Scotland is no more a separate country than Hawaii (part of USA) or the Canary Islands (part of Spain), according to the definition that is used here.

I honestly think you have

I honestly think you have all the right to see it as a separate country.

I'm English, but I love Scotland. I visit there whenever I can, and you can tell it is a completely different country. I think some people just want to stir and make us all the same, like they normally do with oriental people. I so often hear: They have little eyes, so they are all the same.

Erm that is wrong. We have our own backgrounds and we are proud of them. Very nice that we have United Kingdom but that doesn't mean we aren't all unique in our own differences.

Being around my own world.
