Hello PassportStampers!!!
Looking for some information on the Phillippines. Planning to spend a few nights in Manila-what area is recommended/what hotel/what is there to see/do there?
Also, I am interested in finding out information on visiting some of the best beaches in/around the country. Was thinking Cebu and Caticlan(Boracay)....am I overlooking a region/resort I should go to where the beaches are pletiful, the sunsets/sunrise are majestic and the people and area are safe. I have heard southern Phillippines can be a little dangerous due to the extremist groups.
Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks
Puerto Galera / Tamaraw
Hi jetsetter
We went to Manila last year and it's a pretty interesting city. We ended up heading south on a local bus after a couple of days, to Batangas. From there we got a small boat over to Puerto Galera - a fairly nice little harbour, popular with divers. Spent one night there then headed along the coast to Tamaraw beach resort and had a lovely few days there. The resort was a 5 minute scramble round some rocks from White Beach (of which there are several in Manila), which was more of a backpacker/surfer dude kind of place, although nice to go to for a meal in the evenings. Tamaraw beach itself was quieter and a lovely place to spend a few days - there are a few nice walks/excursions you can do to nearby waterfalls etc.
Would recommend it as a 3-4 day side trip from Manila if you don't have time to go much further (which we didn't) and don't want to have to fly or take a long ferry ride.
