Hello - should Zanzibar (next to tanzania) be a seperate travel entry - they have their own flag.. but not sure if it qualifies as a country. I went there in 1992 but can't verify whether Zanzibar is part of Tanzania ?

Former Countries from 1974
Hello
We go back to 1974 for former countries, in order to keep the integrity of our country lists. However, Zanzibar is quasi-autonomous, hence the intra-country immigration controls.

I went to Zanzibar a couple
I went to Zanzibar a couple of years ago and there are absolutely no border controls. Its the same country. Zanzibar used to be separate a while back when Tanzania was Tanaganyka.

One country
Tanganyka + Zanzibar = Tanzania
It's one country formed by two semi-autonomous regions, as e.g. Yugoslavia was till recently formed by Serbia and Montenegro.

Zanzibar
HI,
I will check situation late next week when I visit Zanzibar, but you are right they are one country, even people of Zanzibar want to be independent (like so many others e.g. Catalonia)
BTW, why Aland Island is own country here, even it´s part of Finland!!!

Zanzibar
They do (on Zanzibar) have their own Political Leader and Party, however if you fly from mainland Tanzania its obviously an internal flight and you dont need a passport to travel between them.

his conversation is going no where. It’s lacking the place of a good leader to head the things to come out on conclusion........
