Hi everyone,
I am thinking about going on a 13 day school trip to Ecuador. We would arrive in Quito and then would go to the Cotococha Lodge in the Amazon. After a few days of jungle excursions, we fly to San Cristobal island in the Galapagos. We travel to many of the islands by boats.
After that little summary, can anyone give me pros/cons of the country? What to do if I go? What not to do?
Any and all advice is appreciated!

Ecuador
I went to Ecuador a couple of years ago and had a fantastic time. Quito is a fascinating city, although diffifcult to do much sightseeing the first few days if you're still getting used to the altitude. Parts of the city can be dangerous after dark but not necessarily off limits, as when we went on a guided walking tour by night, two armed policemen took it upon themselves to follow us and make sure we were safe - just one example of Ecuadorians wanting you to be safe and enjoy their country.
A trip into the jungle is a must, and make the most of any opportunities to go canoeing or floating down the rivers in giant rubber tubes whilst watching monkies playing on the riverbanks...
As for the Galapagos Islands, they were a highlight of my trip. Looking back at my photos it's hard to believe how close you can get to the wildlife, and I don't know of anywhere else where seals will come and tickle your toes whilst you're snorkelling...Just remember to take lots of sea-sickness tablets (some of the waters get really rough) and plenty of camera film.
I would say definitely go on the trip. You'll see some spectacular scenery and I can promise you won't regret it.
